AUSTEn Banks Strait Casts
The AUStralian Tidal Energy (AUSTEn) project was a three year project (2018 - 2020) funded by the Australian Renewable Energy National Agency (agreement number G00902) led by the Australian Maritime College (University of Tasmania), in partnership with CSIRO and University of Queensland. The project had a strong industry support (Atlantis Resources Limited, MAKO Tidal Turbines Ltd, Spiral Energy Corporation Ltd). The aim of the project was to assess the technical and economic feasibility of tidal energy in Australia, based on the best understanding of resource achievable. For further information and output of the project, please visit the AUSTEn project website www.austen.org.au.

DATA ACCESS option 2 via THREDDS Server - Banks Strait Casts
Resource lineage
- Statement
- CTD casts (profiles) taken with two RBR CTDs: Maestro Generation 3 and Concerto Generation 2. The Concerto CTD was equipped with a turbidity sensor. The casts were taken throughout the four field campaigns carried out in the Banks Strait, Tasmania, Australia: - Campaign A1 (13-3-2018 to 29-3-2018), - Campaign A2 (9-7-2018 to 13-7-2018), - Campaign A3 (6-12-2018 to 12-12-2018), and - Campaign A4 (15-2-2019 to 16-2-2019). The CTD units were lowered down in multiple configurations: strapped to the acoustic release used to deploy ADCP moorings or simply attached to a rope an a weight to ensure a profile as vertical as possible. GPS positions were recorded using a Garmin hand held GPS and confirmed by the vessel's GPS.
