AUSTEn Clarence Strait Casts

The AUStralian Tidal Energy (AUSTEn) project was a three year project (2018 - 2020) funded by the Australian Renewable Energy National Agency (agreement number G00902) led by the Australian Maritime College (University of Tasmania), in partnership with CSIRO and University of Queensland. The project had a strong industry support (Atlantis Resources Limited, MAKO Tidal Turbines Ltd, Spiral Energy Corporation Ltd). The aim of the project was to assess the technical and economic feasibility of tidal energy in Australia, based on the best understanding of resource achievable. For further information and output of the project, please visit the AUSTEn project website www.austen.org.au.

Statement
CTD casts (profiles) taken with two RBR CTDs: Maestro Generation 3 and Concerto Generation 2. The Concerto CTD was equipped with a turbidity sensor. The casts were taken throughout the three field campaigns carried out in the Clarence Strait, Northern Territory, Australia: - Campaign B1 (21-05-2019 to 26-05-2019), - Campaign B2 (18-09-2019 to 21-09-2019), and - Campaign B3 (03-01-2020 to 05-01-2020). The CTD units were lowered down in multiple configurations: strapped to the acoustic release used to deploy ADCP moorings or simply attached to a rope an a weight to ensure a profile as vertical as possible. GPS positions were recorded using a Garmin hand held GPS and confirmed by the vessel's GPS.
