Abstract  This data contains at-sea GPS tracks of little penguins (Eudyptula minor) tagged at three colonies around Storm Bay, Tasmania (Boronia Beach, Wedge Island and Bruny Island Neck) over the 2015/16 summer breeding season. This data was collected as part of an honours thesis submitted in 2016.
Status  completed: production of the data has been completed

Statement  Penguins were tagged with GPS logging devices (CatTrack, South Carolina, USA, 3.7*2.2*0.8 mm, 27g) sealed in electrical heat-shrink for water proofing. Loggers were placed on the penguins lower backs using water-proof cloth tape (Tesa, Hamburg, Germany) and positioned so as to reduce drag without impeding the oil glands or tail movement. Loggers were programmed to obtain fixes every 90 seconds however fixes were only able to be obtained when penguins were at the surface. As a consequence there are large gaps in some sections of the data where penguins were spending more time underwater and/or travelling quickly.
