- Statement
- Surveys are undertaken at three pairs of 60m by 30m reefs (60 m x 30 m in dimension). Approximately 2000 abalone were translocated to one reef out of each pair of reefs, with the remaining reefs left as control sites. Abalone density and macroalgal cover is estimated along 10 randomly placed 15 m transects. Cover of canopy-forming algae is measured on each transect using a line intercept method. Understorey algae is assessed in 5 replicate 0.25 x 0.25 m quadrats sampled every 3 m along each transect. Ten fixed quadrats have also been established on each reef, half of which have had sessile invertebrates physically removed. Fixed quadrats are 0.25 x 0.25 m in size and are sampled using a digital camera.
