Redbait ichthyoplankton data
Database contains information on eggs and larvae of redbait (Emmelichthys nitidus) collected during surveys conducted around eastern to south-western Tasmania in October 2005 and 2006. The database also contains details of each sampled station (e.g. depth, Lat, Long, sampling time) as well as information on the volume of water sampled by each net which is needed to estimate relative abundance of eggs and larvae (numbers per metre square). A separate database contains all data of physical variables recorded by depth simultaneously with each sample, including temperature and salinity.

- Purpose
- Data were collected to (1) develop and validate methods for identifying and staging the eggs and larvae of redbait; (2) estimate the location and extent of spawning areas of redbait on the east coast of Tasmania, and including a quantification of the levels of egg production of this species; and (3) develop and evaluate the use of the daily egg production methods for estimating the minimum spawning biomass of redbait on the east coast of Tasmania.

- Statement
- Surveys were carried out on board the FV Dell Richey II, and the eggs and larvae collected with a bongo sampler equipped with 300 and 500 micron plankton nets. All drops were vertical to a maximum depth of 200m, with the sampler fitted with a CTD profiler attached to a stainless-steel frame especially built to protect the nets.
