- Statement
- Step 1: Determine whether a formal management plan or other type of less formal management regime is in place for the fishery. If no plan/regime is found, report "Management regime not found" and the year of data collection for the framework. Step 2: If a plan or regime is found: - Identify the most recent date of review. If the plan/regime was last reviewed in the past year, assign a score of 3/3. If the plan/regime was last reviewed in the past 5 years, assign a score of 2/3. If the plan/regime was last reviewed over 5 years ago, assign a score of 1/3. If the plan/regime has never been reviewed, assign a score of 0/3. If information regarding plan review is thought to be missing (i.e. the plan is known to have been reviewed but information regarding review dates cannot be found), assign a score of 0/0. - Identify the frequency of review. If the plan/regime is reviewed once every 1-3 years, assign a score of 3/3. If the plan/regime is reviewed once every 4-6 years, assign a score of 2/3. If the plan/regime is reviewed once every 7+ years, assign a score of 1/3. If the plan/regime has never been reviewed, assign a score of 0/3. If information regarding plan review is thought to be missing (i.e. the plan is known to have been reviewed but information regarding review dates cannot be found), assign a score of 0/0. - Determine whether the plan/regime contains defined and measurable performance indicators. If the plan/regime includes four or more indicators, assign a score of 3/3. If the plan includes two or three indicators, assign a score of 2/3. If the plan includes one indicator, assign a score of 1/3. If the plan does not include any defined and measurable performance indicators, assign a score of 0/3. Step 3: Sum the values obtained to calculate an effectiveness score in the form of a fraction (x/y, where x is the total score and y represents the total possible score based on which criteria could be scored. y should be between 3 and 9.) Step 4: Report the calculated score in the form of a fraction (x/y) and the management regime's year of publication where available. Note: Some elements of this composite score may need to be manually obtained.
