Metric: Annual amount of macro-plastic use (kg). Measures the total weight of large plastic materials used by the fishery each year, such as nets, ropes, packaging, and other equipment. This indicator helps track the fishery’s reliance on plastic products.

Metric: Percentage of fishing units within the fishery held by Australian entities. Measures the proportion of fishing licences, quota, or other fishing rights owned by Australian individuals or organisations.

Metric: Number of negotiated benefit sharing or access agreements in place between the fishery and Traditional Owners. Measures whether formal arrangements are in place to share benefits from a fishery with Traditional Owners

Metric: Impact of the fishery on the target stock expressed through biological stock status (SAFS categories) of target species. Measures the health of the fish population being targeted by the fishery. It uses scientific assessments (SAFS) to determine whether the stock is at a sustainable level, depleted, or recovering. This indicator shows whether current fishing pressure is allowing the population to remain healthy and productive over time.

Metric: Number of fishery closures due to external environmental contaminants in the past 5 years. Measures how often fishing activities are suspended because of pollution or contamination risks.

Metric: Percentage of waters zoned explicitly for commercial fishing in the fishery jurisdiction (state/territory or Commonwealth) of operation. Measures the proportion of jurisdictional waters that are designated for commercial fishing activities.

Metric: Extent of negative communication (number of instances) about the fishery, target species, or extraction/production method(s) in the past 5 years. Measures the number of reported instances of negative media coverage, campaigns, or public commentary relating to the fishery.

Metric: Annual weight of discarded and/or dead target species by species (kg). Measures the weight of target species that are caught but not retained and are returned to the water. This helps track unwanted catch and potential waste of target species.

Metric: Presence/absence of voluntary codes of practice to protect animal welfare. Indicates whether voluntary standards exist to support the humane treatment of animals during harvest and handling.
