Tamar sea level data March-August 2018
Water level heights were measured every 5 minutes at five station locations in the 70km length Tamar estuary, Tasmania, for six months. Pressure loggers deployed in the water recorded total pressure and the inverse barometer effect was accounted for by two additional pressure loggers deployed above ground within 15km of a station. The data include barometric pressure, water temperature, and water level relative to Australian Height Datum (AHD83). The data captures tidal amplification and asymmetry between ebb and flood tides in the estuary for the purpose of a research project completed in 2018 by Karen Palmer. Based on the Tamar estuary model created for NRM North by BMT WBM Pty Ltd using TUFLOW FV (with permission), a new hydrodynamic model was created and calibrated with observed water levels. Different scenarios of sea level rise and bathymetry change were then simulated to model the effects on tidal amplitude and phase.

- Statement
- Four titanium HOBO U20 water level loggers and three polypropylene HOBO U20L water level loggers were deployed. Five loggers were in the water; three fixed to concrete anchors lowered next to floating pontoons, two within stilling wells fixed to piles. Two loggers were deployed above ground measuring barometric pressure. The loggers were removed once per month to download the data via optic USB shuttle. The logger elevation was measured relative to a nearby benchmark or by RTK survey to allow adjustment of sensor depth to water level relative to a known datum. Further details on the deployment, levelling, and data processing is provided in the included metadata. Water level loggers recorded at five minute intervals. Data from the Seaport tide station (WL5) from 2014-2017 is available from the IMAS Data Portal under "UPPER TAMAR TIDAL HEIGHT DATA" (https://metadata.imas.utas.edu.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/metadata.show?uuid=cf40574e-79b0-4f92-9038-8e5a9c4cb294). See SUPPLEMENTARY INFO [attached to this record] for additional details on each tide station.
